I am a documentary filmmaker with international experience for about 15 years. I started working in various capacities, news reporting, documentary and editor at the Nigerian Television Authority. I produced human interest stories also especially that which pertains to the most vulnerable group; women and children. Am passionate to use the platform I have to be a voice to the voiceless as well as educate, inform and entertain people.

Bullying prevention was the focus of the conference’s keynote speech by Erika Leonard, Program Director at Kidpower California, an anti-violence and anti-bullying organization.

Charter school organizations provide majority of campaign contributions in school board race
Campaign contributions totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars have been poured into this year’s race for two seats on the West Contra Costa Unified School District Board of Education, and over half of this money has come from organizations connected to charter schools. According to the California Fair Political Practices Commission 2016 filing schedule, candidates must file financial disclosure forms for contributions received between July 1 and Sept. 24 by Sept. 29.

Opinion split on petition to open charter high school in Richmond
Barely two weeks after the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCSUD) Board of Education voted not to sell Adams Middle School to Caliber Schools, the charter school organization petitioned the Board to open a high school in the district. Parents, staff and students of the Caliber: Beta Academy charter school came to the school board meeting held at Lovonya DeJean Middle School last Wednesday in blue “Caliber” t-shirts, carrying placards proclaiming “Yes to Caliber High” and “I support Caliber High.”.

WCCUSD Board again denies Caliber School’s request
In a meeting at Lovonya DeJean Middle School last Wednesday, the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Board of Education voted against a petition from Caliber Schools to open a high school in the district. Board chair Randall Enos and board members Tod Groves and Madeline Kronenberg did not support the petition.

The women, collectively known as “Rosie the Riveters,”worked in jobs previously reserved for men. Since the war, “Rosie” has become an iconic American symbol of female independence and strength.

Downtown Richmond shows its heart at Spirit and Soul Festival
About 800 Richmond residents and their children turned out for the 8th Annual Spirit and Soul Festival in historic downtown Richmond, held outside the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts last Saturday. The idea behind the event, organized by the Richmond Main Street Initiative, is to “promote the area as a great place to come out and have a good time,” said Alicia Gallo, outreach coordinator for the organization.

District won’t sell Richmond middle school to charter organization
The Board of Education of the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) announced that it will not move forward with the sale of Adams Middle School to Caliber Schools for $60,000 after a vote held during a closed-door meeting at Lovonya DeJean Middle School earlier this month. In an open forum leading to the vote, community members and union representatives addressed the board.

Grace Oyenubi got her masters from the acclaimed UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. As a Berkeley graduate, she co-produced and co-directed the short film “Forced” focusing on survivors of rape, abduction and displacement of victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in her home country, Nigeria. That film was nominated for the 2018 Student Academy Award and the David L Woper IDA Student Award and has been selected by various festivals including RiverRun International Film Festival and Oakland Short Film Festival.
A MasterCard Fellow, Grace is also a grantee of the International Women Media Fund and a Berkeley Film Foundation Grantee. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and International Documentary Association.
Has print, online, television and radio journalism experience. Enjoys cooking, traveling to new places, cultures, lifestyle, politics, and anything that really has to do with people. Grace is currently working as an Associate Producer with the Award-winning Documentary Filmmaker Dawn Porter.
